Middle School Announced for 2013

A topic of discussion at the last Parent Night was whether we should start a Middle School class for Years 7 and 8 from 2013. Feedback received has been positive and the Board has now decided to proceed with this development. That means that the current Year 6 and 7 students will form the first Middle School class next year. This is an exciting development which will benefit students educationally and socially. If you weren’t able to attend the meeting and would like to know more or have questions, please contact the school office.

Senior Work Program QSA Approved

CQCC Highschool Teachers and Principal, Michael Appleton, have been working closely with the QSA to get all our Senior Work Programs approved by the Queensland Studies Authority. Thanks to their hard work and dedication all our Senior Work Programs except for English have been approved! This approval is extrememly exciting for CQCC as this gives our graduating year 12 students the opportunity to get an OP score as they leave school and consider tertiary education. While approval of the English Work Program is still pending CQCC celebrates the impact this will have on future graduates.

Chess Success!

The CQCC Primary and Highschool Chess Teams ventured to the State Championships in Brisbane this term. Primary student Jarret won the most games in the entire State Competition and Highschool student Nathanael won the most games in the Queensland Regional Division. While the CQCC teams didn’t hit the leader board, the students benefited from a chess workshop and some challenging competition.

My Highschool Camp Experience by Emily

My experience at High School Camp was awesome. The camp was at a place called Kiah Park which is just east of Gympie. It is mainly a horse riding camp. The bus ride from Rockhampton to Camp was great fun. It was wonderful to put schoolwork aside and to be able to talk, laugh and sing.

Kiah Park is a beautiful place with rolling hills and lovely views. I loved seeing the sun coming up and down each day. Once we had arrived we unpacked and had some dinner.

Congratulations Chess Teams: First in Round 1

Building Confidence

One of our hopes and prayers for children as they grow up is that they will be able to enter the world with a sense of confidence and humble boldness. Where does such confidence come from?

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” Psalm 20:7

Timetable Adjustment

Dear Parents,

Please note on the weeks where there is a Public Holiday or a Pupil Free Day, our timetable is altered.

Wednesday will be a 'Day 2.' Prep - Year 3 will wear sports uniform.
Thursday is a 'Day 4.' Prep – Year 3 will be in sports uniform again.
Friday is a 'Day 5.' Year 4 – 12 will be in sports uniform.

Because there is no 'Day 3' this week, Year 4 – 12 will not be having a swimming lesson.

Altering our timetable in this way means that subjects timetabled for Monday aren't missed, as a lot of Public Holidays fall on Mondays.

Piano Lessons

Dear Parents,

Emily S. is completing her Year 12 this year and has some spare periods she is making available for young piano beginners. She is offering to give lessons to students in Prep – Year 5.

Lessons will be held in the last session on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

The cost will be $10 for 20 minutes or $15 for 30 minutes.

Piano students will need a $15 music book, provided by Emily, and a standard exercise book.
