On returning home from India, I was delighted to see our new sign work on the Covered Games Area. Seeing the large sized logo reminded me of the Scripture verse that accompanies it:
Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
Whilst most birds have to flap their wings a lot to get from point A to point B, eagles have a unique way of capturing the air currents. With seemingly little effort they are able to rise and glide as they spread their large wings.
In the busyness of life, we can sometimes feel like that bird flapping its wings, growing tired quickly. But if we still ourselves and wait on God we can experience spiritual renewal. As we focus on Christ and submit our will to His, He fills us again with His Holy Spirit.
To “run the race” in life we need a strength that is beyond ourselves. If we are to fullfill our purpose, we need God’s strength to fill us. It is in the time of waiting on Him that our focus is renewed, and that our sense of prority is adjusted. This time with God is essential to each and every one of us.
For this reason, moments of silence have become a regular part of school life. Whether a few minutes in Assembly, Christian Living, or any other part of the day, students are experiencing the power of silence with God as a part of everyday life. This is a habit that will be very helpful for the rest of their lives.
