POLICY
Central Queensland Christian College has a responsibility to ensure the safety of all students, staff, parents, volunteers and visitors. As part of this process, during an emergency all people on College grounds will be expected to follow the directions of staff as outlined in this policy.

PURPOSE
To provide written processes about the appropriate conduct of College staff and students during an emergency.
As part of this responsibility the College will make all of the above people aware of it’s Fire Evacuation Policy and Procedures for the implementation of the policy if and when the need arises. The policy applies to all situations where there is a threat of fire or any other life-threatening emergency situation.
DEFINITIONS
- An Emergency is any situation which arises posing some sort of threat to personnel and/or property of the College.
- A student is any person regardless of age who is enrolled at the school.
- Staff includes all persons working for the school: employees, volunteers, full-time and part-time.
PRINCIPLES
This policy is based on the fact that all students, staff, volunteers and parents have a right to learn in a safe environment.
People who pose a threat to personnel or property need to be dealt with promptly and in an appropriate manner.
The welfare and best interests of students will always be our primary concern.
PRACTISES
To ensure that students are protected from potentially harmful situation the following steps will be undertaken:
- An alarm will be sounded when a threat arises
- Teachers will take appropriate action in line with Fire and Safety procedures to ensure that students are either removed from buildings or secured in classrooms as appropriate to the situation
- Teachers will remain with students at all times
- A class roll will be taken
- Everyone will remain in place until an “All Clear” is sounded.
