Curriculum Plan Overview

We are committed to enabling students to achieve standards equal to, or above, Queensland standards of learning through a holistic curriculum plan based on the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) syllabus.

OVERVIEW:

  • Embedded in the curriculum is Values Education and Life Skills.
  • Our Prep program combines play with lessons in Science, Social Studies and an introduction to phonics that prepares children for reading.
  • In Grade One, children take part in a phonetic, learning-to-read program that utilises a number of outstanding reading tools: a specially developed alphabet sequence, songs for each of the sounds, poems, displays, and physical activities. Additionally, there are character development activities and Bible stories.
  • Primary students participate in the following specialist lessons:
    - LOTE (French)
    - HPE
    - ICT

  • A range of learning experiences are provided through excursions such as Romp in the Park, Science Expos, Careers Information tours, School Camps etc.

  • Flexible study options are available to Year 10-12 students for
    - School based apprenticeships
    - School based traineeships

QUEENSLAND STANDARDS
At Central Queensland Christian College we are committed to the ideals presented in the QSA Syllabus, contributing to the development of students as:

  • Knowledgeable people with deep understanding
  • Complex thinkers
  • Creative people
  • Active investigators
  • Effective communicators
  • Participants in an interdependent world
  • Self-directed and reflective learners

We are also committed to the cross-curricular priorities of Numeracy, Literacy, Values, Life Skills and a Futures perspective.

REGARD TO AGES, ABILITIES, APTITUDES AND DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS
We understand that different people learn in different ways and at different speeds and choose to cater for multiple intelligences in the planning of units of work. We celebrate and encourage unique God-given talents and abilities and encourage students to explore and express these through their learning opportunities. Students who are identified as having exceptional learning needs have IEPs or EAPs developed in conjunction with their class teacher to assist them.

END OF SEMESTER PRESENTATION
An end-of-semester parent presentation has become a tradition which is enjoyed and anticipated by the College community, giving the students the opportunity to share with family and friends what they have learned and achieved, what skills they have acquired and, in many cases, educating the audience on important issues in a fun way.

PLANNING
Teachers are to use the Essential Learnings and Queensland Standards in the planning process to ensure the continuity in the learning experiences of the students and coverage of each KLA.

Teachers are required to present their planning and assessment pieces to the Head Teacher and Principal at the commencement of each term to ensure suitability, accuracy of content and practice, and to enable the Principal to be aware of, and where appropriate, involved, in the education of students. Where problems may arise the Head Teacher then has the capacity to have informed discussions with staff, students and / or parents.

REPORTING

  • Parent / Teacher interviews are available at any point in the Semester upon request.
  • Interviews are scheduled in the middle of each Semester. However, if any problem arises before that time we seek to deal with it immediately.
  • Parents are provided with a Report Card at the end of each Semester.

For each subject, the achievement and effort will be reported. Desirable Habits and Traits are also reported with an overall comment in plain English and number of days absent.
